Experience speed and glide like never before with the DW Race tail!

This tail was born from fire with one purpose- break every record downwind SUP racing. For the 2023 race season the design process was supercharged. Leveraging new simulation techniques modified to suit hydrofoil design lead to results impossible by classic design processes. Millions of virtual iterations, hundreds of refined targets, and many hours of testing have created tail wings that are truly next generation.

During testing, the DW race tail exhibited surprising pitch stability, comparable to a much larger tail. This made it amazing for wing foiling and accessible to intermediate riders. It is also well suited to wing racing when matched with small front wings. If you want to break your top speed record, this is the tail. A top speed increase of 5-10% over the 13 marlin was consistently recorded during testing.

Tail drag has been reduced 15% at high and low speed, with a 5% reduction at mid speed compared to an equivalent Marlin.

This tail pushes the limits of g10 as a material. maximizing aspect ratio and reducing wetted area results in a wider range, with far lower drag across the entire range.

G10 was chosen over carbon due to overwhelming user preference during testing. Surprisingly everyone who tried it preferred g10, no matter the skill level. Feedback was the small sacrifice in pitch stability was worth the large gain in turning.

This tail is tuned for slightly lower loading, and works best on front wings 1000cm2 and below matched with masts below 85cm. Too high of load will cause cavitation of the tail above 25kn or when pumping over 20kn. For top speed, a long mast and small front wing will work.

This tail has high pitch stability, pumping is best with fuselages in the 50-60cm range.

OPTIONS DETAILS:

Axis:

-The tail has been lowered to reduce frontal area and better accommodate shims.

-The rear has been streamlined to reduce turbulence and wetted area.

-The angle has been reduced; it is meant for zero shim on the 951 or 1001 ART Pro and zero shim on the 720 or 780 Spitfire. For larger wings, shim 0.5° more lift (black) per size up.

Armstrong:

Angle is consistent with the 14” Marlin, meant to fit wings 1000cm2 and below. I recommend shimming to reduce angle on small wings and short masts.

Standard M6x30mm:

Angle consistent with 13 Marlin. Shimming for more lift creates little drag.
