An Updated Understanding of Tail Tuning
Recently my understanding of tail tuning has evolved some.
In a nutshell the tail tuning is very dependent on the distance between the center of drag of the foil and the center of gravity of the board, foil, and rider!
This means the tail downforce needs to be changed even when only changing the mast length, board thickness, rider height, rider weight, and foil weight.
Just considering height above the foil, I found a ballpark ratio is to change the tail shim by 0.5° for every 5cm change in foil to CoG distance. This is most applicable to mast length and rider height, but can be noticeable when changing board thickness too.
Hey there, i bought one of your original tails (13.5") and use it a great deal. I was curious to see what series of tail wings you have developed since and there seem to be only two in your list. Is this correct or am i missing something?
Do you mean negative or positive change the tail shim by 0.5 degrees for every additional 5 cms in mast length?
